You don’t truly realize how much you need someone to hold space for you until someone finally does.

This is a realization I’ve been arriving at recently, despite having spent over 15 years in the healing world, holding space for others. It’s a role I cherish deeply, being there for hundreds of people,  offering them the support and care they need. But what I hadn’t fully acknowledged was the importance of finding that same care for myself.

For years, my self-care has been built on a foundation of mindfulness—walking rituals, careful attention to what I consume, and a lifestyle that keeps me vibrant and rarely ill. This approach has served me well, but it also allowed me to overlook something crucial: the need for others to hold space for me, too.

This shifted recently when I transitioned to a health plan that prioritizes holistic, preventative care. For the first time, I’ve allowed myself—and my family—to receive regular care from providers of our choosing. Our journey led us to Totality Holistics, where we’ve been under the care of Dr. Mason and Dr. Michael Martinez, a husband-and-wife duo who are as dedicated to their craft as they are to the well-being of their patients.

I’ve been visiting them regularly, sometimes weekly, other times twice a month. With Dr. Mason, we’ve been exploring some gut imbalances that have lingered on my mind, while Dr. Michael has been helping me prepare for an impending foot operation. Beyond their professional expertise, I’m discovering something far more profound: how much I’ve needed someone to care for me, to hold space for me, just as I do for others.

This realization has filled me with immense gratitude—not only for the care I’m receiving but for all those who dedicate their lives to holding space for others in the healing arts. Whether it’s a yoga instructor guiding you through a practice, or a holistic physician working with you to uncover root causes, these individuals perform sacred work that often goes unrecognized, even by those of us who share the same path.

In reflecting on this, I’ve found a renewed appreciation for what I do and bring to the world. I’ve never doubted my abilities, but I don’t think I’ve fully grasped the impact they have on others. There’s a quiet power in holding space, in being present for someone’s journey, and I’m realizing just how vital it is—both to give and to receive this kind of care.

So, as I share these thoughts with you in real-time, I want to extend a gentle reminder: if you are a nurturer, if you are someone who cares for others, especially within the healing arts, it’s essential to make space for yourself too. Whether it’s weekly or biweekly, find someone who can hold space for you, who can focus their energy and attention on your well-being.

In a few days, I’ll be going on tour with The Polyphonic Spree, but once I’m back, I invite you to schedule an energetic reset with me at Le Sol or join me for my Tuesday Restorative and Reiki class or my Somatic and Breathwork session. If you haven’t yet found a provider who looks at the whole you—mind, body, and spirit—I encourage you to explore holistic care options, perhaps even coupled with the Cleare Share plan I’ve linked here. This is something that has been transformative for my family, and it’s something I believe in deeply.

As I continue on this health journey, I’ll be sharing more with you, including conversations with my acupuncturist and some snapshots along the way. For now, these are my initial reflections—thoughts I wanted to share with you, my community, as we all navigate the sacred act of holding space for ourselves and each other.
